About the Team

Our Portfolio Solutions business is comprised of SME Commercial Package and AIG’s multi-line Underwriting Agency (MGA) portfolios. SME Commercial Package is a strategically important product within AIG Australia, and we are seeking to invest in our team and systems to maximize the growth opportunity. This role is an integral part of AIG’s SME Underwriting Team located in multiple state capitals in Australia. It reports to Portfolio Solution’s Head of Underwriting Operations.

About the role

In this role you will deliver service excellence to internal and external customers and drive profitable growth of SME Package, whilst always ensuring adherence to risk appetite, underwriting guidelines and compliance standards.

This is a foundational role on an underwriter career path and provides an excellent opportunity for professional learning and development.

What you need to know:
Key accountabilities will include but not limited to:

- Assist with the monitoring of the 1300 Underwriter Triage phone queue
- Continuously manage SME Business Insurance mailbox ensuring that all broker and support teams’ enquiries are responded to within predefined service levels
- Facilitate the process of issuance of underwriting administration documents including but not limited to certificates of currency, claim history reports, etc.
- Assist with the review and issuance of renewal invitations within underwriting authority limits
- Review and process new business, endorsement, and renewals within underwriting authority limits
- Issue weekly renewal invitation compliance notification
- Assist Portfolio Solutions Risk Event Coordinator to investigate risk events, near-misses and breaches of the GI Code of Practice and ensure timely reporting
- Manage shared underwriter movements calendar
- Assist SME Team Leader in various tasks including but not limited to maintaining minutes from team meetings
- Proactively engage with operational teams to ensure timely and effective credit control monitoring (including unallocated cash and receivables/aged debtor reporting)
- Liaise with various support teams to ensure that administrative processes performed outside of Portfolio Solutions are completed within predefined service levels
- Assist with project coordination work as required

What we’re looking for:

- Exposure to the insurance industry
- Basic knowledge of commercial underwriting concepts
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office suite platforms systems
- ANZIIF qualifications or commitment to undertake and complete same
- Ability to drive a culture of service excellence
- Ability to work autonomously, to meet deadlines and manage workloads
- Strong interpersonal skills - particularly collaboration and engagement skills
- Sound communication skills - including written and presentation skills
- Strong team player
- Willingness and desire to learn
