**Position Information**:
Sydney Secondary College Balmain is a vibrant middle school with 810 students, including 15 Aboriginal students, located on the harbour foreshore with selective, enrichment, comprehensive and special education streams for students in years 7-10. We are proud of our diversity and inclusiveness. Balmain Campus provides opportunities for students to thrive in academic, sporting, cultural and artistic endeavours, though a broad, engaging curriculum and a multitude of extracurricular activities. As part of Sydney Secondary College, our highly skilled and dedicated staff have opportunities to teach across campuses - Leichhardt (7-10) and Blackwattle Bay (11-12) as well as work with colleagues across campuses in collaborative practices and professional learning opportunities.
**Selection Criteria**:
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Demonstrated capacity and strong interpersonal skills to efficiently manage day to day operations of the school, including sourcing, supporting, and entering pays and contracts for, casual and temporary staff.
- High level organisational and problem-solving skills to collaboratively manage whole school events and programs including examinations, variations to routine and parent teacher conferences.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to manage and liaise with a range of department and community stakeholders including cleaning contractors, community hirers and corporate department employees.
- Ability to work with students, parents and teaching and non-teaching staff in monitoring and supporting student attendance.
- Capacity to work with a dynamic executive team in striving for continual improvement through the development and implementation of the school’s strategic directions.
**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
