Position in on contract for a period of five (5) years.

**In this role you will**:

- Appear as leading counsel in the more complex legal matters, including high profile trials and criminal appeals before the Court of Appeal and High Court of Australia.
- Manage the Public Defender Chambers to achieve Legal Aid Queensland's strategic and operational objectives, and particularly to deliver the highest quality of legal assistance services to clients.
- Manage and support a team of lawyers and administration staff to ensure a shared commitment to a culture of client service and high performance.
- Provide opinions and specialist legal advice to staff, clients and preferred suppliers on matters relating to criminal law, evidence, procedure, advocacy and ethics.
- Contribute to Legal Aid Queensland's strategic direction as a member of the Executive Management Team and provide advice to the Senior Director Legal Practice, Chief Executive Officer, the Board and internal managers about complex legal matters.
- Develop plans and strategies for the Public Defender Chambers consistent with the organisation's strategic plan and ensure objectives are achieved and sustainable.
- Contribute to developing and implementing policy, procedure and law reform initiatives as needed by the Senior Director Legal Practice or Chief Executive Officer.
- Deliver, and ensure members of the Public Defender Chambers deliver, internal and external presentations and papers as part of a continuing professional development program.
- Represent Legal Aid Queensland in external forums as requested by the Senior Director Legal Practice or Chief Executive Officer and establish and maintain networks with members of the judiciary, government officers and other professionals.This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Australia License.
