The Commonwealth Games - an international, multi-sport event involving athletes from the 72 member nations of the Commonwealth - is coming to Victoria in 2026
Millions worldwide will watch the thriving regional centres of Geelong, Bendigo, Ballarat, Gippsland and Shepparton host a jam-packed schedule of 20 sports, nine para sports, the Games ceremonies and festival program that together will showcase the best of Regional Victoria.
The Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (Victoria 2026) will deliver the Games. Together with the State of Victoria, the Commonwealth Games Federation and Commonwealth Games Australia, it is tasked with organising a world-class event for athletes, spectators, locals and the Commonwealth of Nations.
Reporting to the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, this new role is responsible for:
- Supporting assigned groups in all financial matters including budget management and development, and the general commercial process that includes procurement.
- Inputting data and narrative to key budget reports for OC Board, Audit and Risk Committee, Senior Management Team and external funding partners.
- Promoting the delivery of a cost-effective Games, identifying opportunities for efficiencies through cross-departmental analysis and financial insight.
- Undertaking reporting with other Games Partners and liaising with finance representatives from these organisations where required.
- Preparing and maintaining financial data and knowledge.
- Liaising with the Financial Management team to support the smooth running of the finance system, internal controls, accounts payable and financial reporting.
- Providing input to overall strategic budget management for the Organising Committee and handling of budget risks and issues.
- Working closely to assigned areas to assist in managing and monitoring of headcount budgets.
**Please note**: As the Organising Committee progresses, the duties associated with the position are expeted to change and adapt to the evolving needs of the committee.
Key Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated ability to build outstanding working relationships with variety of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated track record in a finance role in a complex and diverse environment and ability to be flexible to a highly changing environment.
- Developed conceptual and analytical skills demonstrated by the ability to resolve complex and highly sensitive operational issues.
- Proven success implementing innovative programs and strategic initiatives.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel.
- Professional Accountancy Qualification (CPA/CA qualified or similar) preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics for Finance and Operations or Microsoft BI is desirable.
- Experience in a similar finance business partnering role or strong finance background (external audit or consultancy).
