The Anaesthetist will provide expert medical assessment and management of patients within the Anaesthetics Service, in line with best practice standards and College requirements. The successful position holder will be responsible for the provision of specialist anaesthetic services to emergency patients, inpatients and outpatients at the relevant Hospital. This may include (but not be limited to): Preadmission Clinic, General Operating Theatres, Endoscopy Suite, Pain Service, After hours On Call including occasional weekends, Interventional and Diagnostic Radiology, Interventional and Diagnostic Cardiac Procedures. The Anaesthetist will ensure provision of high quality anaesthetic services to all patients within the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District.

The District includes two major operating hospitals: Wollongong Hospital and Shellharbour Hospital

The Anaesthetist will proactively:

- Support the development and provision of anaesthetic services.
- Support and facilitate a culture of learning and best practice. This may include involvement in dedicated registrar teaching sessions, simulation, Morbidity and Mortality meetings, involvement in the College TPS trainee program, teaching of medical students from the University of Wollongong, yearly Performance Reviews.
- Support and develop anaesthesia research within the department. Involvement and interest in clinical trials and audit is strongly supported.

**This position will be offered as Sessional - Zero Hours Reliever**

The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) has responsibility for health services in the Illawarra Shoalhaven region - a catchment area extending along the coastline from Helensburgh in the north to North Durras in the south with over 400,000 residents. This catchment covers four Local Government Areas (LGAs): Wollongong, Kiama, Shellharbour and Shoalhaven. ISLHD operates eight hospital sites in Coledale, Bulli, Wollongong, Port Kembla, Shellharbour, Berry, Shoalhaven and Milton Ulladulla, and community health services operating from approximately 58 locations across the region. ISLHD is one of the region’s largest employers with a workforce of more than 8,500 staff.

Wollongong Hospital is the largest of Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District’s eight hospitals, treating more than 48,000 patients annually. It is the region’s tertiary referral hospital servicing a population of more than 400,000 people. The Wollongong Hospital is a 500+ bed centre which provides both general and specialty medical and surgical services including adult intensive care and coronary care units.

An academic suite at Wollongong Hospital supports both the Graduate School of Medicine and School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Wollongong. As such there are teaching and research opportunities through the UOW Graduate School of Medicine.

ISLHD is one of the region’s largest employers with a workforce of more than 8,500 across eight hospital sites and community health services.

An eligibility list may be created for future Temporary/Permanent Full-Time and Part-Time positions within the District.
