Nepean Hospital is a teaching hospital that provides tertiary referral services in emergency care, coronary care, diagnostics, gynaecology, paediatric, neonatal intensive care/ICU, maternity, mental health, rehabilitation, and surgery. The Nepean Campus has recently experienced tremendous growth and aims to support communities within and outside of Sydney’s western suburbs, providing world-class clinical facilities, services, and care.

The primary purpose of the Research Officer is to support the execution of a national liver cancer research project at Nepean Hospital. The Research Officer will be required to collect blood and microbiome samples (oral and stool), as well as clinical data.

Your role will be responsible for capturing all patient details and clinical data in an online database. Additional activities will include sample processing, aliquoting and storage according to the study protocol. The Research Officer will also be required to oversee logistics pertaining to the transport of samples to the Microbiome Research Centre (MRC), St George and Sutherland Clinical Campus, UNSW, Sydney. This position will be based at Nepean Hospital; however, travel may be required to other participating sites in Sydney.

**What you will bring to the role**
- A university degree in a relevant field (medical science, basic science), or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training or experience.
- Previous experience in liaising with patients and the collection/processing of clinical samples.
- Previous experience in a Microbiology/Molecular Biology laboratory environment.
- Demonstrated computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Any experience in database administration/management will be an advantage.
- High attention to detail and meticulous execution of all activities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
- Ability to manage resources and tasks and perform effectively and efficiently under pressure.
- Willingness to attend relevant training courses as required by the hospital.
