About The Role
Anglicare has an exciting opportunity for an Aboriginal Mental Health Trainee to join our Shoalhaven Mental Health Hub.
As the Aboriginal Mental Health Worker, you will provide a range of case management, outreach and recovery-oriented supports to improve the mental health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people. Working in collaboration and partnership with local health and support organisations, you will aim to deliver mental health assessment, treatment, support, advocacy, and information services that prioritise cultural sensitivity and safety.
This is a Permanent Part time (2 or 3 days a week) role based at Nowra.
Responsibilities (not limited to):
- Ensure the best possible outcome for participants is achieved by assisting them to establish strong links to formal and informal supports within the local area.
- Seek to learn about the clients’ interests, their connections to family, friends etc and work with the client in building their capacity to be part of their community.
- Assist clients to connect with appropriate community supports, promoting clients’ rights and access to services.
- Assist in the planning and facilitation of mental health related programs to improve community safety and wellbeing.
- Support clients at their immediate point of crisis and assist with the development of a safety plan to allow the person to return home safely.
- Maintain a personal strength-based, trauma-informed and recovery-oriented outlook that engenders a sense of hope and resilience in clients.
- Completion of client intake and referral processes and provide support within outreach settings.
- Support in recovery planning and goal setting with clients.
- Work alongside a multi-disciplinary team to ensure continuity of care and provision of a comprehensive service to clients.
Requirements:
- Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Identified role
- Current enrolment or willingness to enrol in suitable Cert IV Mental Health qualification.
- A sound knowledge of Aboriginal/ Torres Strait Islander communities and relevant organisations within Shoalhaven.
- Have a demonstrated understanding of social & emotional health and wellbeing issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- NSW Drivers licence
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment, as well as independently.
