
Science Technician

**As our Science Technician, you will**:
- Under the guidance of supervisor, conduct laboratory
- Assist researchers and collaborators to plan and conduct research on vertebrate pests (including wild dogs, feral pigs and red-eared slider turtles) in Queensland to refine monitoring and management approaches.
- Manage own and, where relevant, team work priorities to ensure assigned tasks are undertaken efficiently and effectively to achieve project/team aims and deliverables. This includes assisting colleagues to complete pest animal research activities including trapping and handling of pest animals, and monitoring of pest animal populations using cameras and other techniques.
- Under guidance from senior scientists, undertake data entry, analysis and interpretation of current and historical data relating to the ecology, distribution, abundance and management of vertebrate pests to support project/team deliverables, including direct contribution to the communication of scientific findings via project reports, research papers, conference presentations.
- Liaise with project staff and collaborators including pest managers, local government staff, landholders, natural resource management groups, Biosecurity Queensland and interstate colleagues to complete research activities.
- Contribute to ongoing improvement, validation and currency of scientific practices within work unit by investigating and assessing new ideas, reviewing literature on new methodologies and scientific developments, proactively identifying issues and opportunities, determining suitable solutions and alternative options and driving ongoing review and updating of relevant SOPs, protocols and methodologies
- Work safely in remote areas for extended periods to complete pest animal research activities; and implement and maintain appropriate workplace health and safety, and equal employment opportunity principles and practices.
