As a member of this dynamic team, you will contribute to science strategy with a whole of department focus, working with departmental science leaders, Executive and Corporate teams. The work is diverse and varied, and you will be involved in developing and delivering activities that contribute to our science priorities in engagement and communication, strategic governance, capability and partnerships.

**Who we are**
The Office of the Science Convenor is a dynamic team within Deputy Secretary Lyn O'Connell's Group in DCCEEW.

The Office of the Science Convenor (OSC) provides advice to the Executive on enterprise-level strategic science issues.
We are a small team, working to ensure that the best available science is being used to inform policy and decision making by:

- Identifying and advocating for our scientists and understanding their needs
- Improving science communication and engagement
- Facilitating and strengthening science partnerships across and outside government
- Convening an interdepartmental Science Council of senior scientists and emerging science leaders

**The Job**
In this role you will:

- Work collaboratively and proactively in a small team to achieve dynamic and impactful cross-cutting outcomes for the team and the department.
- Provide Secretariat support and coordination of key meetings e.g., Science Council.
- Provide support for the planning and delivery of activities for strategic workshops e.g., for the Science Council, and key science events e.g., National Science Week, Science Conferences etc.
- Manage mailbox and establish processes for timely response and additional administrative duties as required.
- Assist to develop innovative and engaging ways to communicate science and the work of the Office of the Science Convenor (OSC).

**What we are looking for**

**Knowledge and experience**
- Relevant experience in related or similar roles.
- A passion for science.
- Coordination and or Secretariat experience is highly desirable.

**Skills and capabilities**
- Exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills and the ability to work effectively with limited direction.
- An understanding of how science is used in the department.
- Proven ability to respond flexibly and positively under pressure and uncertainty.

**Mandatory qualifications**
A Bachelor's degree in science (any discipline) or degree/diploma/certificate in science communication and/or other relevant tertiary qualification.
