**Position overview**

The successful applicant will lead, and establish the NCHWS, an initiative of the College of Health and Medicine’s 10-year Strategic Plan (TRANSFORM). This position will be the inaugural Head of the Centre. The NCHWS will partner with governments, industry, research and higher education sectors and other entities to deliver research, intelligence and post-graduate training solutions to the health and care sector’s most challenging problem - supply and sustainability of its essential, skilled labour force. The NCHWS will leverage the ANU’s nation leading capabilities in epidemiology, biostatistics, economics, public policy, health services research and data sciences to progress strategic projects of importance to government, industry, higher education and health and care service delivery.

The Head NCHWS will be a leader in building relationships and capability needed to establish a new national centre for health workforce studies and research.

The Head will undertake engagement with internal and external stakeholders to bring together ANU cross-disciplinary expertise and link them to policy-making and service delivery government agencies - Commonwealth, State and Territory - and health and care industry employers - to help them address the challenges of workforce planning, supply and development for the nation’s health and care sector.

The initial focus of **NCHWS** will be to build advanced health and care workforce planning tools and models for governments and industry. This will be achieved by leveraging the foundation work of the ANU’s Health Data and Analytics Team (HDAT) to make better use of a range of national, jurisdictional and regional data sets to better inform supply and demand modelling and through a range of government and industry partnerships address the workforce planning and development needs of partners.

**NCHWS** will undertake projects of national and regional significance that utilise large-scale linked data sets to build better planning and modelling tools for the health and care workforce. These will be initiated by the Centre as its research program develops, front line research teams and by partner organisations. The Head will work with team members, particularly the HDAT Business Manager, to determine government and industry needs for health and care workforce planning, research and evidence and seek to match ANU capability with those needs.
