Southern NSW Local Health District covers a large area of the state, from Goulburn and Crookwell to the Victorian border, and surrounds the ACT on three sides, a total of 44 537sq kms. It extends from the pristine beaches of the NSW South Coast, the farmlands of the Southern Tablelands, across the picturesque Great Dividing Range and the spectacular Snowy Mountains. Southern NSWLHD comprises of 2 Networks - Inlands centred around Goulburn, Monaro, Queanbeyan and Cooma, AND Coastal centered around Bega, Batemans Bay and Moruya in the far south-east corner of NSW and the Integrated Care Network.

Southern NSW Local Health District covers a large area of the Southern half of NSW. **What you'll be doing**

The Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) Medical Lead is responsible for providing leadership and support for the Southern NSW Local Health District Voluntary Assisted Dying Program and to establish and support strong clinical governance. Additionally, the VAD Medical Lead will provide VAD services as a Coordinating, Consulting, and/or Administering Practitioner in the community when required.

**Your Opportunity**:

- Establishing, with the Voluntary Assisted Dying Coordinator, and supporting the overarching governance framework, policies, and procedures to ensure stringent compliance with regulatory requisites and the pursuit of best practices.
- Ensure that all elements of the legislation, NSW Health Policy and access standards are met in the local pathways of VAD care.
- Work with a collaborative approach to support VAD across all health settings, cross border and community, primary health and non-government organisation sectors.
- Monitor and provide feedback on SNSWLHD local procedures and other resources relevant to VAD.
- Provide leadership, education and support for staff, community, and all stakeholders involved with VAD
- Include obligations for documentation and the reporting of process and outcomes as required by the legislation and NSW Health policy.
- This may involve travelling around the SNSW LHD to provide VAD services where no local authorised practitioner is available.
- This role includes acting as a Coordinating, Consulting and/or Administering Practitioner as outlined in the NSW Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2022

**Essential Criteria**:

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered as a Specialist with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Applicants must have Fellowship of a recognised Australasian Specialist College or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia and/or practiced in the medical profession for at least 10 years as the holder of General Registration and be in a General Practice training fellowship pathway.
- NSW Working with Children's Check
- National Police Check
- Compliance with NSW Health OASV Policy
- Class C Driver's License - **_the ability to travel up to 5 hours a day as required_**

**Selection Criteria**:

- Demonstrated medical qualifications and completion of the NSW Ministry of Health Voluntary Assisted Dying Authorised Practitioner training.
- Experience in the supporting projects and initiatives in a challenging environment.
- Demonstrated high level knowledge of the principles of end-of-life care, clinical ethics, governance, risk management, and patient safety.
- Proven ability to communicate and negotiate change and improvement strategies with key stakeholders
- Demonstrated high level of information communication and technology skills.
- Evidence of a current unrestricted drivers' licence and the ability to maintain. Ability and willingness to drive/travel as the role requires. This may involve driving long distances and overnight stays.
- Meet eligibility requirements to become a Coordinating, Consulting and Administrating Practitioner
