**Description**:
Racing NSW is the regulatory body for Thoroughbred racing in NSW. One of the key responsibilities of Racing NSW is upholding the integrity of the industry. This is achieved, in part, through the management of a rigorous drug control program in racehorses.
The role of a casual Race-day Swab Official centres around the collection of urine samples from Thoroughbreds at race meetings which subsequently undergoes drug analysis. This position involves, but is not limited to, performance of the following tasks:
- Receiving and identifying designated racehorses as they complete their race
- Maintaining visual contact with assigned racehorse until sample collection is completed
- Completion of relevant documentation accompanying samples
- Ensuring custody of samples
- Identifying veterinary welfare concerns and reporting these to Official Race-day Veterinarian(s)
- Assisting with veterinary treatments and/or cooling of horses post-race; where necessary
The successful applicant for this position should possess the following skills and attributes:
- A high standard of integrity and professionalism
- Ability to communicate and work effectively and respectfully in a team environment, as well as independently
- Ability to safely handle and work closely with horses
- Ability to work under pressure
- Professionalism
- A current driver’s licence
