**The Role**
The Victoria State Office has an ongoing EL1 position available in the Melbourne Office. The Victoria State Office which is part of the Workforce Australia Provider Support Division is responsible for:

- Program and contract management of contracted employment and skills services providers.
- Regional and place-based strategies, programs and initiatives that respond to local labour market needs.
- Industry and employer focused initiatives that respond to workforce shortages and seasonal labour needs.

The EL1 Assistant Director is responsible for leading a team to deliver a range of Australian Government employment programs in Melbourne. The team has responsibility for contract management and stakeholder engagement activities. You and your team will monitor program and provider performance, manage a range of employment contracts, drive place-based projects and initiatives and support our Ministers and Executive to achieve outcomes for individuals and business.

Reporting to the EL2 Director, the Assistant Director will provide direction on a range of strategic and operational functions. The Assistant Director will work under limited direction from the EL2 Director and will work in collaboration with a range of internal and external stakeholders. You will provide leadership that fosters a collaborative team-based environment that actively promotes a culture of leadership at all levels.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
Reporting to the EL2 Director, the EL1 is responsible for:

- Providing leadership within the State Executive team to create a shared sense of purpose and direction within the State and more broadly the Division.
- Focusing strategically considering the whole of government agenda and the ramifications of a wide range of issues relating to the department’s portfolio.
- Identifying emerging priorities for the Division and utilising this intelligence to meet program objectives and contribute to policy development.
- Providing strong people leadership including mentoring, coaching and employing strategies to support talent management to develop staff capabilities required for future APS roles.
- Building and sustaining relationships with a network of key people internally and externally, actively recognising shared agendas to work towards mutually beneficial outcomes and drive continuous improvement.
- Managing Commonwealth services contracts judiciously. Providing an oversight role for all elements of contract management including relationship management, compliance, assurance, performance, quality, and contract administration (either directly or through leadership of responsible staff).
- Responding flexibly to changing demands and assist staff to do the same. Implementing workforce structures that support effective decision-making, empower employees, and deepen the culture of growth mindset, curiosity, and collaboration across divisional and departmental boundaries.
