**Where you'll be working**:
Based in Newcastle at Community Health, you’ll be joining the Magistrates Early Referral into Treatment (MERIT) program—an integral part of our Court Diversion Program under Drug and Alcohol Clinical Services (DACS). The centre is conveniently located close to public transport, schools, and local amenities, providing easy access for both staff and clients.
As part of the MERIT team, you’ll work in a supportive multidisciplinary environment with a diverse group of experienced clinicians. **About the role**:
In this dynamic position, you will provide timely and person-centred support to individuals referred to MERIT by the courts. Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting comprehensive assessments
- Developing and monitoring evidence-based treatment plans
- Providing regular counselling sessions
- Coordinating referrals to appropriate services
- Preparing court reports and maintaining accurate documentation within clinical systems
Your work will play a vital role in supporting clients’ recovery and reducing reoffending, while also contributing to broader public health outcomes. You’ll thrive in this role if you’re adaptable, proactive, and committed to making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
**About you**:
To succeed in this role, you’ll need to demonstrate:
- Strong clinical experience in providing evidence-based drug and alcohol interventions
- The ability to write and present clear, concise reports
- Strong time management and organisational skills
- The capability to assess risk and manage challenging behaviours in a professional manner
- Effective communication and collaboration skills within a multidisciplinary team
**Requirements**:
- Relevant qualifications in health, allied health, or social work
- Extensive experience working in drug and alcohol services
- Knowledge of court diversion programs and the legal context of client care is highly desirable
- High-level computer literacy and experience using health databases and clinical documentation systems
