**About the role**

We are currently seeking an experienced Gym Officer based at our Villawood Immigration Detention Centre (VIDC) in Sydney. This position is a casual position where you will work 8 hours on a Saturday and Sunday and potentially in the week if available/needed. The Gym Officer is expected to contribute to maintaining a positive and healthy community through education, sporting, recreational and leisure activities. You will create social activities that empower detainees by encouraging them to utilise their special interests, skills and contribute to the health and safety of community life in our Centre.

**About you**

You will have extensive knowledge of working in a culturally diverse environment and have demonstrated capacity to engage persons of varying cultural backgrounds. You will also have proven skills in community development. You will hold considerable experience in planning, managing and conducting structured and progressive programs and activities for adults. You will also be required to conduct a needs analysis and then produce specific programs based on the needs of your class. - Help develop, manage and deliver a schedule of structured and unstructured programs and activities
- Contribute to team objectives / monthly schedule planning and positive team environment
- Ensure activities are meaningful and encourage detainees to participate
- Actively develop processes and encourage detainee feedback
- Communicate effectively with staff and detainees regarding activities and events to ensure detainees can access activities of their choice
- Ensure appropriate resourcing for planned activities
- Ensure recreational equipment is available to detainees
- Qualifications required:_
- Certificate III in Fitness qualification at minimum
- AUSactive registration
- HLTAID009 Provide CPR and HLTAID011 Provide First Aid certificates with at least 6 months currency on the certificate
- This is a position of trust and responsibility and to support this we will conduct a thorough probity assessment, which includes a national police check as an essential selection component for this role._
