Operational Research sits within the multi-disciplinary Intelligence Directorate supporting intelligence-driven policing through specialised operational and translatable research and analysis, servicing all areas of the Queensland Police Service (QPS). The unit provides guidance as part of an integrated intelligence environment integrating research principals to ensure operational outcomes are evidence based, improve community safety and reduce harm.
This unit fulfills a discreet need within the organisiation by exploring the nexus between crime, (re)offending and (re)victimisation patterning and their individual and collective impact on frontline police. It focuses on strategic and operational prevention, disruption and investigative responses to problem places and cases and integrates research within the intelligence products to deliver evidence-informed products.
The work of this team is innovative, timely, relevant, and high quality and unique functions include service-wide reviews, targeted and contextually responsive evaluations of operational initiatives, advice and requests of information, involvement in advisory groups, and research at state, regional and district levels across a broad range of topics.
The team also builds and maintains relevant professional and research partners both internal and external to the QPS and initiates and manages the delivery of frontline-focused research contracts with external providers.
- Do you have a relevant degree qualification in Criminology, Criminal Justice of Law (and associated statistical and research methods)?
- Are you skilled in diverse research methodologies (quantitative and qualitative) to deliver authoritative and timely advice around the applied policing environment?
- Do you have the capability to assist, monitor and assess policing practices, strategies and initiatives at state, national and international levels and advise on their applicability to the Queensland context, including their efficiency, effectiveness and relevance?
- Are you committed to contributing to the unit's capacity to provide innovative approaches for understanding and devising responsible and responsive solutions for complex policing issues.
- Do you posses the ability to translate complex findings into easily digestible formats?
- Do you have the ability to work as part of a team but also independently?
