The role contributes to the teaching, learning and caring of the students at St Michael’s and is directly or indirectly involved in optimising outcomes for students in a safe, secure and positive environment.
The Melbourne Sports Institute will drive / facilitate this initiative and will work diligently behind the scenes to help enrich and, ultimately, optimise the Academic Coach program for St Michael’s Grammar School.
**The role**
Academic Coaches are assigned casual shifts over the course of the School day. The key responsibilities vary based on what time of day the shifts are rostered and typically involve the following:
- Actively monitor student engagement and behaviour, relating to safety, wellbeing, uniform, readiness to learn and their alignment with the St Michael’s Grammar School values
- Provide educational and academic coaching, advice, mentoring, and support to students on issues related to their studies
- Report issues around the grounds to relevant parties to be rectified, e.g. potential hazards, damage

- Currently studying for a tertiary qualification, e.g. education, commerce or business
- Anaphylaxis qualification Asthma Management qualification is preferred.
- Level II First Aid Certificate is preferred.
- Employee Working with Children Check
- National Police History Check (obtained within the last 6 months)

**Child Safety**
Melbourne Sports Institute (MSI) and St Michael’s Grammar School is committed to child safety. As such, the successful applicant will be expected to satisfy child protection screening and adhere to the St Michael’s Grammar School’s Child Safe Policy and Code of Conduct. These documents may be downloaded from the School’s website.
Academic Coaches engaged by MSI to provide services at St Michael’s must:
- Always demonstrate and ensure compliance with the School’s Child Safety Policy and Child Safety Code of Conduct and complete regular training in Child Safety standards.
- Promote the safety and wellbeing of children and young people to whom we provide services.
- Ensure that your interactions with children and young people are positive and safe.
- Provide adequate care and supervision of children and young people in your charge.
- Act as a positive role model for children and young people
