The Salvation Army Asylum Seeker & Refugee Service (ASRS) offers a specialised Emergency Relief & Material Aid program and a range of support programs to people seeking asylum and refugees.
The ASRS Emergency Relief & Material Aid program provides specialised support to people seeking asylum, who reside in the Northern & Western suburbs of Melbourne. The program is designed to support people seeking asylum who are vulnerable, disadvantaged and find themselves in financial and other forms of immediate crisis.
About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Case Worker to support community members to meet their goals through community partnerships, collaboration and using case management as a tool.
You will successfully
- Work collaboratively with Officers, Volunteers, and other co-located Mission Leaders to deliver an integrated approach to delivering casework support to people seeking asylum
- Build and maintain relationships within TSA and with local community stakeholders to identify local resources, community needs, and opportunities for collaboration
- Develop high quality case plans with community members to identify achievable goals using a strength-based approach.
- Use prevention and early intervention strategy and response to deliver support and services to people experiencing disadvantage and financial hardship
- Support community members to build and increase capacity and develop independent living skills towards self determination
- Develop and maintain referral pathways for other support and services
- Provide advocacy to support community members to access services and be connected in their community and be linked to other communities as appropriate
We currently have a part time position available Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays - 8:30 am to 4 pm. (21 hours per week. This position is based at our Asylum Seeker & Refugee Service - 12 Tinning Street, Brunswick.
Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award, Level 4.
You will have
- Degree level qualification in Social Work, Psychology, or other Community/Human Services discipline is highly desirable, or a Diploma and a minimum of 2 years relevant experience in the community services sector would be considered
- Knowledge of the impact of war, conflict, torture and trauma on individuals and families.
- Ability to understand and engage with people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds.
- Ability to speak Arabic, Farsi, or Tamil (highly desirable)
- Demonstrates knowledge of refugee & asylum seeker sector including context, principles, philosophies, policies, regulations and the immigration process of seeking asylum
- A current and valid VIC Working with Children’s Check
- A willingness to undergo a National Police Check
