We plan, build and operate our transport network and services with our customer in mind. We improve the efficiency, reliability and safety of transport within and between regional cities and centres.
**The Opportunity**
The District Works Manager is responsible for the management of the development and delivery of all road maintenance programs and projects in the works area to achieve product/service delivery to agreed standards, targets and business objectives. This includes management and delivery of an annual budget exceeding $50M on both maintenance and construction projects and programs, utilising both an internal labour force of salary and wages staff of approximately 80 people and then external contractors, for which the District Works Manager is directly responsible for. Works are carried out on State roads in the Central Coast area including the M1 motorway (between Hawkesbury River and Toronto) and the Old Pacific Highway. These are some of the busiest roads in the state requiring a high degree of knowledge in roadside works and traffic management, and the coordination of both a day and night field labour force. The role is based out of the depot at Mardi and has overall responsibility for the running of this depot.
**About you**
To be considered for this role you must possess tertiary qualifications and be able to demonstrate your previous experience. You will be a skilled communicator with exposure to working with a broad spectrum of stakeholders including technical experts and all levels of government.
The ability to astutely manage time, delegate and work collaboratively and closely with other parts of the division is paramount.
You will need to:
- Ensure that the works centre’s business objectives and client needs are met through planning, and the management of the development and delivery of road maintenance works programs and projects to achieve completion within the agreed time, cost, quality and scope requirements.
- Manage road maintenance staff and physical resources, including an allocation to works, workforce planning, and the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives, skills development, and managing workplace relations issues to ensure that the appropriate resources are available to meet projected workloads.
- Ensure that the business is competitive, focused on the delivery of its primary functions and continually improving its performance by implementing commercial systems and promoting innovation in the works centre.
- Ensure that the works centre delivers its services with a high level of workplace health and safety and environmental management according to the Transport Agency policies, Continuous Improvement/Quality Management principles and legislative/statutory requirements by developing, implementing and enhancing systems of work.
- Ensure effective client, stakeholder and community relationship management and consultation in all road projects and programs, acting as a point of contact for all road-related matters.
- Ensure effective delivery of minor contracts through the design, development, tendering, awarding and efficient administration of practical contractual arrangements and timely management of issues and by carrying out the role of the Transport Agency Representative.
- Provide strong leadership, model high ethical standards and values ensure that sound governance policies and practices are adhered to by Regional Maintenance Delivery unit when aligning unit strategies, plans, processes, priorities and values to the Transport Agency and Government objectives.
