**About the Australian Museum**
The Australian Museum (AM) is located on the homelands of the Gadigal people of the Eora nation. The Australian Museum acknowledges the Gadigal people as the custodians of the land, sky and waterways, paying respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
The AM, operating within the NSW Department of Enterprise, Investment & Trade cluster, is the first museum in Australia and was founded in 1827. The AM provides access, engagement and scientific research to increase our understanding of natural history and culture, particularly of the Australasian region. The AM holds more than 22 million objects of biological, geological and cultural collections and develops programs, exhibitions and school and community education initiatives onsite, online and offsite.

**About the role**
The First Nations Curator is a key cultural and creative role within the Australian Museum, offering a significant opportunity to work in a curatorial and content production capacity with one of Australia’s leading cultural institutions. This role involves developing exhibitions, programs, written and digital content of local, state, and international relevance, with the objective to help maximise the Museum’s vision to be a strong advocate for First Nations’ culture, and continue its important work in developing engaging, excellent quality, and intellectually rigorous narratives and content.
**About you**
**Essential Requirements**:
- This is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander position. Applicants for this position must be Aboriginality/Torres Strait Islander descent through parentage, identify as an Aboriginality/Torres Strait Islander and be accepted in the community as such. Exemption is claimed under section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
- Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a natural science, cultural heritage, museum and heritage studies or other relevant field.
- NSW Driver Licence
**Knowledge & Experience**
- Strong connections in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities (local - including within the Sydney Basin - regional, and remote) incorporating applied knowledge of community-centred consultative practice and cultural protocols.
- Experience in, or knowledge of, Indigenous Cultural Intellectual Property frameworks, policy, and licensing.
- Experience in contributing to curatorial projects, preferably in a museum environment, delivered on time and within budget, including research, selection, and preparation of material culture leading to public outcomes (namely exhibitions, displays, and online content).
- Current knowledge and working experience to deliver the Key Accountabilities and perform to the Focus Capabilities outlined in this Role Description
