Summary
Full-Time, 12-Month Contract
At the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI), we are committed to achieving innovative, ground-breaking health and medical research that fundamentally improves the quality of life for all people.
The Registry of Senior Australians Research Centre (ROSA) established in 2017, was designed to monitor the health, service utilisation, medication use, mortality, and other health specific outcomes of people receiving aged care services. ROSA’s efficient model leverages existing information, bringing together diverse datasets collected by different organisations throughout the country, to provide us with a whole picture of the ageing pathway. ROSA produces evidence to guide decision-making for quality, coordinated, efficient, innovative, and age-friendly services and practices.
An exciting opportunity is now available for an Analytical Research Associate/Epidemiologist to join ROSA and support innovative research focused on aged and health care services for older people. Responsibilities of the role will include using analytical/statistical methodologies to produce the evidence necessary for practice and policy recommendations to improve the consistency and quality of care provided to older Australian’s receiving aged care services. A key focus of this position will be to build evidence of social determinants of health on aged care access and health outcomes for older people.
About the role
Key responsibilities include:
- Conduct high quality research with a focus on aged care and health services for older people accessing aged care, including planning, execution, statistical analyses, report writing and publication.
- Conduct a project within ROSA to examine social determinants of health impacting aged care access and health outcomes for older people, and other projects to meet the goals of ROSA.
- Conduct analyses of large datasets (>1 million individuals) contained within ROSA, including aged care data, Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme data, Medicare Benefits Schedule data, hospitalisation records and Department of Social Services Data On Multiple INdividual Occurrences (DOMINO) data.
- Co-ordinate input on projects from lived experience contributors (consumers) and stakeholders.
- Contribute and advise on study design. This includes development of study protocols, analytical plans, and sample size calculations.
- Undertake and coordinate high level statistical analyses, including using complex multivariable modelling, and survival analysis. Knowledge of sophisticated techniques to handle missing data, confounding adjustment, and other observational data features are highly desirable.
- Undertake studies regarding quality and safety monitoring, benchmarking, composite measures of health care quality, sampling recommendations, development of indices/measures of quality of care.
- Maintain good understanding of new statistical developments and methodology that should be considered for ROSA’s activities.
- Lead the preparation of papers for publication in high impact peer-reviewed journals.
- Participate in the dissemination of research findings at appropriate conferences.
About You
- Degree qualification in a relevant field with relevant experience.
- PhD in Epidemiology, Statistics, Biostatistics, Biomedical Informatics, Bioinformatics, Health Services Research, Public Health, Medicine or related field highly desirable.
- Excellent proficiency working with at least one software package (i.e., Stata, SAS or R).
- 1-2 years’ experience working with large datasets independently. Preferable experience working with aged care and/or health service data.
- Experience working with observational data, multivariable modelling, confounding/interaction issues, survival analysis, data visualisation.
- Knowledge of the aged care and health care systems in Australia (desirable).
- Meticulous attention to detail; methodical with excellent record keeping skills.
- Demonstrated experience in providing high level support to research projects.
- Highly motivated and can prioritise workload and to meet deadlines.
