HOPE has been a community service in Western Australia for over a century, providing much needed support to people affected by alcohol and other drugs, mental ill-health, youth justice issues and socioeconomic disadvantage.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Youth Justice Bail Coordinator to join the Youth Justice team The position is full time, working Monday to Friday and will include an On Call roster.
**About the Opportunity**
The role oversees the delivery of HOPE’s YTAP Service, ensuring that services are provided in line with a through-care approach and assists young people to successfully transition from custody to community. This includes short to medium term accommodation, advocacy, and support to secure appropriate longer-term accommodation, and a structured day activity program linked to the young person’s Youth Justice Service Supervised Release Orders/Community Based Orders and the young person’s goals.
The YTAP Coordinator is also responsible for leading and managing staff, ensuring that they provide a safe, culturally competent, and supportive residential care environment for young people released from detention in Banksia Hill when no suitable and safe accommodation is available.
The primary function of the role is to oversee and run HOPE’s youth justice program including community mentoring and bail facility. The position will lead and manage staff to provide support for young people referred by Youth Justice Services (YJS) in the bail facility and community mentoring. The YJS Coordinator will have a reduced caseload of young people on the community mentoring program.
The YJS Coordinator is also responsible for leading and managing staff, ensuring that they provide safe, culturally competent, and supportive services for young people.
**Requirements of the Role**
- Oversee and assist Residential Support Workers to provide a safe, homely environment in the bail and YTAP facility; and provide opportunities for experiential learning through everyday activities that support young people to meet the goals outlined in their plan.
- Provide induction, direct leadership, and support of HOPE staff together with Manager.
- Facilitate referrals for young people as necessary.
- Observe and supervise young people to take their prescribed medications.
- Respond to young people in a non-judgmental and respectful manner.
- Participate in HOPE’s On Call system for residential services.
**About you**

- A degree with 3 + year’s relevant* experience; or lesser formal qualifications with substantial years of relevant experience (e.g., 5-7 years); or equivalent level of expertise and experience attained through previous appointments, service, and/or study (e.g., 7-9 years). *Relevant, e.g., Psychology, Social Work, Youth Work, Mental Health, AOD, or other relevant qualification
- Demonstrated experience at managing all aspects of staff and team performance, including recruitment, staff orientation, line management supervision, staff disciplinary action, performance development and reviews, and team building.
- Excellent administration, verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft office programs and Client Management Systems for reporting and record keeping.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate well with young people, and an understanding of Aboriginal culture.
- Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Experience and / or willingness to work with young people with challenging behaviours.
- Experience working in culturally appropriate ways.
- Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
- Confidence to managing difficult and challenging situations.
- An understanding of and adherence to working within personal and professional boundaries.
**Desirable Criteria**
- Current knowledge of and commitment to Equal Opportunity in all aspects of employment and service delivery.
- Demonstrated experience working therapeutically with young people.
- Experience in service provision in the Youth Justice Services, Alcohol and Other Drug and Mental Health sector.
- Has knowledge of Trauma Informed Practices and Care.
- Knowledge of the effects of foetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) on young people (or willingness to undertake training).
- MHFA certification.
- A broad understanding of the challenges and experiences of people in Australia (regionally or metro based).
