**About the Emergency Department**
- Austin Emergency Department is one of Melbourne’s busiest, seeing around 90,000 patients annually. We manage a wide range of patients, including a diverse range of AOD and mental health presentations. We liaise closely with inpatient toxicology, addiction, mental health and general medical units to ensure a holistic approach is provided to patients presenting with an AOD conditions. In addition, we have ancillary support services including social work and a specialised discharge planning team. We work closely with community AOD organisations.

**About the role**
- Support Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) related presentations to Austin Health ED. The AOD Care Coordinator will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team including addiction medicine, mental health and toxicology clinicians and allied health staff to engage and provide support to patients who have had attended the Austin ED with an AOD related presentations. The AOD Care Coordinator will work to deliver the aims of the Victorian Department of Health’s “Better Responses to Alcohol and Other Drug Presentations” initiative. This a fixed term position until 30 June 2026.

- As the Alcohol and Other Drugs Care Coordinator, You will be someone who has excellent communication skills, with a strong commitment to excellence in patient care. You’ll bring energy and drive to your work, and have a keen interest in developing your skillset.
- To be successful in this role, you'll bring with you:

- Experience working in AOD services and up to date information about referral pathways for further support.
- Demonstrated skill and experience providing a comprehensive range of harm reduction interventions with people who use alcohol and other drugs.
- Understanding of the health, social and legal issues related to AOD use and marginalised populations.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including problem solving ability and conflict resolution skills, as well as sound oral and writing skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
- Work alongside clinicians as an equal partner in providing real support to consumers and their families
- Successfully meet Police and Working with Children’s checks
