Melbourne, Australia Australian Government Full time

APS Level 4
- $78,954 - $83,424
- Fairbairn ACT, Brisbane QLD, Melbourne VIC (Paralegals only)

Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has multiple exciting opportunities within the Vaping Advertising and Product Investigation Section (VAPIS). We are seeking enthusiastic, committed and driven people with keen interest in supporting investigation and compliance operations conducted into non-compliant or unlawful vaping.

The VAPIS team is a key part of the government’s priority to respond to the health risks posed by the use of vaping. The work is rewarding and involves multifaceted enforcement and compliance responses spanning across Commonwealth, State and Enforcement agencies.

Vapes, or e-cigarettes, have the potential to jeopardise Australia’s already hard-fought successes on tobacco control. Vaping has been taken from its original purpose for helping smokers to quit, to increased general use, particularly amongst young people. Current medical research demonstrates vaping is increasingly being recognised as contributing to a risk of health harms, leading to potential increasing burdens on the Australian health system and on the Australian community as a whole.

The responsibilities of our investigation support officers vary depending on their particular role within our section:
advertising compliance and investigation support, exhibit management and operational support, or paralegal support.

With a team of experienced investigators and team leaders, this is an excellent starting position for someone who wants the opportunity to learn and grow in a specialist regulatory role.

Under supervision, the duties of the investigation support officer will include, but are not limited to:
All roles:

- Gather, collate, record and assess information and physical exhibits relating to potential contraventions of the vape laws that may be used as evidence for enforcement action.
- Under supervision, conduct research and analysis for low complexity compliance cases and investigations.
- Perform administrative tasks to support investigations including data entry, maintaining case records, planning for desktop-based and field activities, and reporting.
- Attending field operations or warrant activity to support with property seizure and exhibit management when required.
- Maintaining equipment and resources used in investigations, including operational activity.
- Developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) documents.
- Contribute to strategic planning and decision making within the team.
- Contribute new ideas and identify opportunities to improve the efficiency of the activities of the section.
- Other duties as required to support the Section and Branch.

Any suitable applicants, not selected for an advertised position with VAPIS, will be given the option to be place into a merit pool. This may be used by other sections to fill future vacancies or other equally exciting positions within our branch.

If you have read this far and you feel this opportunity fits your career goals, we want to hear from you
