Our client, a large QLD Government department is seeking to engage a Principal Project/Planning Officer to work across different service strategy projects. _
**Overview of the role**:
The Principal Planning Officer, reports to the Manager, Project Planning within the Service Strategy team and is based in the Brisbane CBD.
As the Principal Planning Officer, you will provide portfolio oversight and reporting of infrastructure planning projects for the team, to support meeting future schooling needs in growth areas across the state. You will also develop reporting strategies and tools; and provide specialist advice to various areas of the department regarding infrastructure, planning and asset management related business activities, systems, policies, projects, reporting and programs of work.
**Qualifications and experience**:
The essential requirements for this role are:
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, setting priorities and achieve results within tight deadlines in an environment of change and evolution.
- Demonstrated experience in project portfolio reporting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of project and program methodologies, and experience in supporting multidisciplinary teams in strategic initiatives and achieving successful project outcomes within an infrastructure service delivery environment (or similar).
- Skills and experience in identifying and analysing problems, and exercising initiative and responsibility.
- Demonstrated experience in preparing, monitoring, evaluating and reporting on program/project budgets and 'managing up' in order to ensure the key stakeholders remain informed, are proactively alerted to potential issues and risks.
- Confidence in the use of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft Teams and OneNote would be highly valued. Experience in the use of the Department of Education Content Manager and Systems Analysis Program (SAP) would also be highly regarded.
Although is role does not have a specific mandatory qualification, formal qualifications in one or more of the following would be highly regarded:
- Project Management
- Architecture, Town Planning or another relevant technical discipline
**Accountabilities**:
The Principal Planning Officer, will be accountable for and lead duties associated with the role that include:
- Support the delivery and lead the analysis and reporting of infrastructure planning programs, with a specific focus on the development of new school proposals.
- Contribute to the establishment of policies, processes and tools for the delivery and implementation of quality frameworks to identify opportunities for process improvements.
- Contribute to the development of performance measures to evaluate and report on specific infrastructure planning programs.
- Work with key stakeholders to identify opportunities to achieve continuous improvement and to modify practices, procedures, processes, technologies, tools and strategies to achieve the objectives of the Service Strategy team.
- Identify, define and analyse best practice approaches to implementing consistent processes for a range of infrastructure and planning related issues.
- Provide high level advice and reporting to branch management, senior executive, Regional Directors and Principals on a broad range of infrastructure planning projects.
- Manage the oversight of team correspondence and prepare reports, submissions, briefing notes, ministerial correspondence and policy documentation as required.
- Work collaboratively as part of a highly skilled infrastructure planning team.
- This role currently has one direct report Project Officer and is required to work in close collaboration with the Service Strategy team.
