**Who we are**

**The Cargo Operations Pathway** delivers regulatory assessment and inspections of goods, across the biosecurity continuum (offshore, at the border and onshore) to verify compliance with Australia's biosecurity and imported food requirements. Cargo Operations Pathway works with policy and risk owners within the department to influence and inform operational policy and deliver regulatory functions in accordance with legislative requirements, national standards and within an integrated, risk-based operating model. The group has a national footprint with a presence in all capital cities and major regional ports. Cargo Operations Pathway includes the Client Contact Group, Cargo Assessments and Cargo Inspections.

**The Cargo Operations Business Management (COBM)** team provides management support to the Cargo Operations Pathway to drive consistency and improvement in business management practices. This includes financial management, parliamentary process coordination, governance coordination, corporate support, business planning, procurement, pathway recruitment processes, consideration of Compensation for Detriment caused by Defective Administration (CDDA) compensation claims, statutory compensation management and client feedback. COBM also contributes to broader strategic innovation and improvement projects for the pathway.

**The Job**

Managers in COBM play a key role, which means you have autonomy working under limited direction, exposure to a broad range of issues, and the opportunity to work on a range of tasks and issues.

The main duties of the manager in the Compensation Processing team within COBM may include, but are not limited to:

- lead, manage and build team capacity through coaching and performance feedback of geographically dispersed teams working in a regulatory environment.
- manage the team’s workload and set priorities to ensure quality outputs and achieve operational outcomes in line with the department’s business plan.
- coordinate and provide accurate specialist advice on instructional material and policy information in the Cargo Operations Pathway.
- utilise departmental systems and maintain accurate electronic records for investigation and tracking purposes. review investigation outcomes and legal briefs, to ensure content accuracy and consistent decision making in line with the summary findings.
- design & develop reports to present to the executive and other internal stakeholders. review and register new CDDA claims along with other work requests and allocate work to team members to manage workload and priorities.
- provide advice on operational practices to Legal Division.
- communicate, consult, and maintain relationships and networks with key stakeholders.
- represent the section and branch at meetings involving other areas of the department.
- promote and ensuring compliance with departmental Work Health and Safety (WHS) and Rehabilitation policies and guidelines; and being alert for, and reporting risks to WHS.
- promote, model and ensure adherence to APS Values, Employment Principles and Code of Conduct while managing diversity.

- that you may be required to perform occasional out-of-hours and weekend work
