**Position Information**:

- The NSW Department of Education provides, funds and regulates education services for NSW students from early childhood to secondary school, delivering world-class education through its public schools and providing funding support to non-government schools. We employ, develop and support teachers, leaders and other staff to deliver the best outcomes for students and to advance the wellbeing of Aboriginal people.

**About the Role**

Aboriginal Education Officers provide assistance to teachers, Aboriginal students and their families to support improved learning, welfare and well-being outcomes for Aboriginal students.

**Essential Requirements**
- Working with Children Check Clearance
- First Aid Certificate or willingness to undertake First Aid training
- Administration of Medications - training to be provided based on student needs.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal Education and Training policies.

**Selection Criteria**:

- Understanding of the needs of Aboriginal students.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of Aboriginal communities and cultures.
- Ability to interact with Aboriginal students and parents.
- Experience working as part of a team.
- Knowledge of the local Aboriginal community.

Cardiff High School is a comprehensive, co-educational secondary school located in the city of Lake Macquarie on the land of the Awabakal People. The school draws its enrolments from the Cardiff, Garden Suburb, Hillsborough, and Macquarie Hills communities. Cardiff High School has a current enrolment of 750 students, including 110 Aboriginal students and 57 support class students (MC, ED, IO, IM). The school FOEI is 112. The school curriculum caters to a wide variety of interests and needs, with a growing number of students accessing tertiary study and local-industry post-school pathways.

Cardiff High School has a strong relationship with the Kirinari Hostel, with many residents currently and historically attending Cardiff High School.
