The Australian National Maritime Museum (ANMM) is seeking a highly energised and dynamic leader to join our team as the Head of Learning, Site Activations and Programs in this full-time ongoing position.

The Head of Learning, Site Activations and Programs is responsible for the development and implementation of innovative, popular, and strategic programs including education, activations, and public programs, that assist the Museum to achieve its corporate, legislated, and social goals. This includes major site activations and the Museum’s participation in some key city, state and nation-wide festivals and programs, alongside vibrant ongoing formal and informal learning programs and curriculum-related developments.
The Head of Learning, Site Activations and Programs will need to use their specialist knowledge and leadership skills to identify opportunities, set strategy, direct resources, and ensure high-quality project delivery.
This role provides strategic leadership of programs both onsite and online that showcase Museum exhibitions, objects, and stories for both new and existing audiences. It also has responsibility for setting challenging outreach and revenue targets, and ensuring they are achieved.
This position has responsibility to execute, manage and oversee partnerships with Government, Non-Government, and private sector organisations, and create collaborative programs that achieve the objective of activating our site and bringing visitors and revenue to the museum.
**High level overview of accountabilities**:
- Creating and implementing the strategy that ensures the Museum has a vibrant, active, and popular set of programs, events that draw in new audiences and achieve commercial and engagement goals.
- Leading the Museum's participation in major events and festivals to ensure the Museum is a prime mover in the broader cultural landscape.
- Guiding the development of Education programs that ensure Museum content is available to all Australian classrooms.
- Taking creative and production leadership for major Museum activations that involve multiple internal and external stakeholders, including families and the development of diverse audiences.
- Championing diversity and ensuring that engagement and education programs and activities reach a broad audience so that a wide range of perspectives and voices are represented.
- Developing and refining the planning, reporting and delivery processes for Education, Site Activation and Public Program projects.
- Working closely with the Museum Executive to ensure the alignment and integration of Learning, Activation and Public Program projects with the long-term planning of the Museum.
- Negotiating and executing contracts with external stakeholders including Government, NGO, and private-sector organisations.
- Leading the Education, Site Activations and Public Programs teams in way that builds capacity and achieves set targets.
**Selection Criteria**:
**Essential**
- Tertiary qualifications in the fields of education, engagement, and visitor experience, and/or demonstrated relevant equivalent professional experience and training.
- Significant experience and understanding of public program development and management including processes, frameworks and governance practices and engaging diverse audiences with Museum themes, disciplines, and collections.
- Excellent communication skills with demonstrated ability to work with and influence internal and external stakeholders.
- Senior leadership experience in managing diverse and complex teams.
- Experience designing and implementing business development plans for programs in a government or community-based organisation.
- Understanding of role and significance of a national museum.
- Demonstrated experience developing and managing complex budgets and contracts across multiple teams.
**Desirable**
- Experience in fundraising and successful grant writing.
- Experience working with stakeholders in the maritime and marine sectors.
