Perform pre-analytical processes consistently and accurately, by maintaining competence in the various areas within the Central Specimen Reception unit including training as required for Dangerous Goods Packaging and Transport of specimens for referral to non-Pathology Queensland laboratories, in accordance with appropriate guidelines, codes of practice and regulations.Providing assistance, training and support to new employees, and ensuring all team members are supported to further develop their skills and knowledge in Central Specimen Reception team duties. Senior or more experienced team members will act as a resource to other team members to ensure reinforcement of CSR best practice and procedures, and a focus exists on continuous learning and development in the team.Key competencies (role specific criteria)You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:Experience in or the ability to rapidly learn pre-analytical processes, e.g. sorting, coding, data entry, aliquoting, parcel management, etc. in the specimen reception unit. Demonstrated data entry skills with the ability to work accurately and give attention to detail. Proven ability to solve problems and show initiative in the workplace. Proven ability to manage time effectively and work without direct supervision. Demonstrated high level of interpersonal skills and communication skills to enable effective interaction within a work group and between clients (internal and external). The Central Specimen Reception unit delivers a 7-day a week service. In this workplace, all newly appointed staff are contracted to work any rostered shift within a 7-day roster period including weekends and public holidays, including overtime as required. You will be required to take part in a 24-hour continuous shift roster, and will work a combination of day, afternoon and overnight shifts within each fortnight. This facilitates the progressive review of staffing and shift arrangements in Central Specimen Reception to accommodate changes in workload and service requirements. Demonstrate a high level of commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement, in accordance with National Association of Testing Authority/International Standardisation Organisation (NATA/ISO). Demonstrate ability to cooperate and actively participate in a working environment supporting quality human resource management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, workplace health and safety and an ethical environment.Qualifications, registrations and other requirementsCertificate IV in Laboratory Techniques would be highly regarded. No formal qualifications are required for this position, however, previous experience in CSR would be well regarded, although not mandatory. Queensland Health staff will be required to participate in shift, on-call and/or weekend roster arrangements. In some circumstances and following consultation Queensland Health staff may be required to participate in 24 hour shift arrangements.
