**A bit about the role**

As the Principal Planner Cultural Heritage within Wyndham Council’s Heritage Unit, you will lead Council’s Aboriginal Cultural Heritage planning and policy development in line with statutory requirements and best practice.

You will bring your substantial experience collaborating with First Peoples communities and Traditional Owners, including Registered Aboriginal Parties, to build strong working relationships and deliver positive outcomes for living Aboriginal Cultural Heritage in Wyndham.

**What you’ll do**
- Lead Council’s Aboriginal Cultural Heritage planning, strategy and policy development in consultation and collaboration with Registered Aboriginal Parties, community, and relevant Council departments.
- Administer planning responsibilities relevant to Aboriginal Cultural Heritage and ensure Council meets its obligations under the Wyndham Planning Scheme, the _Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006_, the _Planning and Environment Act 1987,_ and other relevant policy and legislation.
- Facilitate partnerships with key stakeholders including the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation, Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation, government and non-government agencies, internal stakeholders, and developers, and negotiate positive outcomes for Aboriginal Cultural Heritage in Wyndham.
- Provide strategic advice in the form of written reports, presentations and verbal advice to internal and external stakeholders regarding Aboriginal Cultural Heritage planning and management issues.
- Provide knowledge sharing and training to build the capacity of Council to engage effectively with Traditional Owner organisations and stakeholders and support positive outcomes for Aboriginal Cultural Heritage.
- Act as a key advisor on day-to-day issues relating to Aboriginal Cultural Heritage.

**What you’ll bring**
- Tertiary qualifications in cultural heritage management, archaeology, urban planning, Indigenous studies or related discipline with several years of experience in Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Management within Local Government and/or State Government or equivalent in the private sector, or lesser formal qualifications and substantial relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with First Peoples communities and Traditional Owner organisations including Registered Aboriginal Parties such as Wadawurrung Land Council Aboriginal Corporation and Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation.
- Demonstrated experience in liaising effectively, working collaboratively, and negotiating with a wide range of stakeholders, to facilitate cooperation and the achievement of positive outcomes.
- Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal Cultural Heritage management issues at a local and state level, including existing policy and legislation and emerging issues.
- Demonstrated experience in policy and strategy development and experience in managing complex projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and persuasively with a wide range of audiences.
- A continuous improvement mindset with a positive, proactive, and flexible attitude.
