Our Legal Division is a small, dynamic team that provides the services of in-house counsel to the Commission. Our lawyers give high level legal advice on a range of issues including human rights and anti-discrimination law, and commercial issues such as contracts and tender processes. We also represent the Commission in external litigation, including as intervener in human rights and unlawful discrimination proceedings.
We are looking for a motivated Paralegal to join the team. In this role, you will provide paralegal assistance to the legal team, including legal research and writing, administrative tasks assisting lawyers, and legal drafting under supervision.
This full-time, non ongoing position offers a competitive salary range of $75,041 - $83,074 per annum plus 15.4% superannuation.

**Skills & Experience**:
**What You’ll Do**:
- Conduct legal research including international developments in human rights law.
- Provide support and assistance as required for the provision of internal legal advice.
- Assist in the preparation of submissions, for example to Parliament or to courts, including legal research, proof reading, checking of references and footnotes, filing documents in court.
- Prepare quarterly/annual reporting statistics.
- Assist in the preparation of reports to Parliament, including proofreading, checking of references, organising desk topping and tabling in Parliament.
- Assist in the preparation of briefs for counsel to advise and appear in Commission interventions in court proceedings, including Federal and High Court matters.
- Provide general administrative services to the Legal Section such as photocopying, filing, database and record management, document preparation and making travel arrangements.
**What We’re Looking For**:
- Completing final year of a law degree, or a recent graduate of a law degree.
- Knowledge of and/or work experience in, international human rights law.
- Demonstrated legal research and strong analytical skills.
- Well-developed organisational and administrative skills including the abilities to work with mínimal supervision, to set priorities and to meet deadlines.
- Well-developed interpersonal and liaison skills, including the ability to liaise with legal practitioners, litigants and others.
- Ability to build and sustain positive relationships
- Well-developed oral and written communications skills with the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with people from a range of backgrounds and to work effectively within a team environment.
