**About the role**:
The Student Protection team is responsible for policies, procedures, resources, training and advice relating to child and student protection, including student protection reporting, supporting students in out-of-home care and child death reviews.
The Internal Reviews team, which is part of the Student Protection team, is responsible for state-wide management of the department's child death and serious injuries reviews under the Child Protection Act 1999 and coordinates responses to information requests from the Child Death Review Board, the State Coroner and other government agencies.
The responsibilities of the Principal Policy Officer, Internal Reviews, will include gathering and analysing information from multiple sources as part of a review or in response to an information request from the Child Death Review Board or State Coroner, planning and conducting sensitive consultations with school and/or regional staff, drafting detailed case chronologies, internal review reports or responses to requests, managing documents and data and supporting periodic reporting to regions and executive committees.
The responsibilities of the Principal Policy Officer, Student Protection, will include providing expert advice on strategic policy issues, projects and activities related to child and student protection and domestic and family violence, undertaking research, analysis, monitoring, review and evaluation of significant policies and projects, establishing effective networks and liaising, communicating and coordinating with key staff and stakeholders to achieve outcomes and participating in and leading projects and aspects of the team's work to successfully develop strategic policy, guidelines, state-wide service delivery implementation and program evaluation.
**About you**:
The successful applicants will have the following key attributes:
- demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills;
- demonstrated ability to build and sustain effective working relationships with staff and external stakeholders and manage interactions with school and regional staff;
- demonstrated ability to effectively manage projects or case reviews and produce documents with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail;
- demonstrated excellent quantitative and qualitative research and data analysis skills;
- ability to work as part of a high functioning team, meet deadlines and function autonomously;
- knowledge of or the ability to acquire knowledge of the department and applicable child protection, domestic and family violence and education legislation, policies and procedures.
