**About the role**:
Merri-bek City Council is looking for a talented communications star to join the Communications team. As a high-profile metropolitan council in Melbourne, delivering more than 150 services for the community, we’re seeking a strategic-thinking team-player to deliver messages to our diverse communities using a wide range of channels and methods.

This is a busy role with a different focus every day, working as a trusted partner on projects across the organisation. You will be working with teams from right across the organisation to determine the best messaging and strategies to reach the different audiences. And this is while working in a fun and supportive team of communications professionals working in partnership with the wider organisation to achieve great outcomes for our community.

**Skills and experience require to perform the role**:

- Tertiary qualification in communications, journalism or a related discipline or a lesser qualification with substantial relevant experience in the field of communications.
- Experience in leading and developing communications plans for a wide range of small and large campaigns, using strategy and creativity to reach a variety of audiences in an efficient and cost-effective way.
- Ability to identify critical and sensitive issues and to respond appropriately with sound judgement.
- Ability to transform technical information and jargon into creative communications that audiences engage with and respond to in a positive way.
- Experience coaching and training staff in the use of communication and engagement planning, tools and practices.
- Experience managing relationships with the media, responding to enquiries, preparing media releases and proactive media pitches.
