**About the team**:
The National Measurement Institute (NMI) is a large division within the Department of Industry, Science, and Resources (DISR). The NMI supports DISR in meeting its objectives by being the national authority on measurement.

We play a fundamental role underpinning the Australian economy by maintaining and regulating Australia’s measurement system, developing and maintaining national measurement standards, and delivering world-class measurement products and client services.

NMI’s Legal Metrology Branch (LMB) plays an important role in ensuring Australian consumers and industry can rely on trusted measurements for fair trade in goods and services. To ensure traders comply with the law and adopt correct measurement trading practices, we employ Trade Measurement Inspectors who check that measuring instruments (for example, weighing instruments, fuel dispensers and weighbridges) are accurate, and pre-packaged articles contain the correct amount of produce.

As a section within LMB, the **Programs and Governance Team (P&G) **supports the delivery of a diverse range of business enabling activities. These include operational and administrative support, national compliance program research, development and review, corporate reporting, business planning / reporting, and asset management. The team has oversight and accountability for managing the responsibilities associated with safety and corporate risks on behalf of the branch.

**The opportunity**:
Support Officers manage the data quality and input into the customer relationship management software. They undertake secretariat duties, travel and trip planning for staff, asset management, and manage minor procurements. In discharging their financial management duties, support officers prepare fee for service invoicing on behalf of the branch.

Support Officers are generally required to work independently, undertaking various moderately complex support and administrative activities under the general direction of their supervisor.

**What’s in it for you?**:
You will provide delivery of administration and support services for the Legal Metrology Branch.

You will engage with a broad range of internal stakeholders, ensuring their needs are facilitated.

You will gain exposure to a trusted government department that provides critical services for all Australians.

The capabilities listed below describe the specific skills, knowledge and behaviours required to successfully perform this job role:

- the ability to manage competing priorities and negotiate outcomes / deadlines with stakeholders

- strong communication skills including the ability to manage difficult conversations with confidence.
- a high level of attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records.
- a willingness to learn and take on more challenging work when required and appropriate. Take responsibility for improving your skills. Embrace mobility and cross-skilling opportunities.
- an ability to analyse and interpret data and information, within a framework of legislation, established policies, procedures and work practices.

**What you will do**:
This is a list of primary duties and responsibilities that are typically performed in this role under general direction / supervision:
