Your role will require you to report directly to the Manager or to a designated Supervisor based in Simply Helping Illawarra. This position will be supported by the Manager or the designated Supervisor for supervision and direction in regard to a practice-based approach and decisions.

**Position Skills and Knowledge**:

- Capacity to work effectively both as a sole worker and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and adapt quickly to a changing environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including empathy and the ability to initiate and maintain strong contacts with families and Service Users and represent the organization in a positive and professional manner.
- Decisions should reflect practice covered by both Simply Helping and our processes, procedures, and policies.
- The person will demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of the issues faced by our aged population and people living with a disability and its impact on individuals and possess a positive and contemporary attitude to those people.
- A commitment to achieving positive outcomes for Service Users, and for Simply Helping, utilizing planned results to ensure and measure customer focus and satisfaction.

**KEY SELECTION CRITERIA**

**Qualifications**:

- A minimum of a Certificate III/IV working with Aged Care, Community Care and/or Disability support, and/or previous experience working as a Community Care Worker.
- Current First Aid Certificate.
- Current Australian driver’s license.
- A valid Working with Children’s Check (WWCC - E) or Blue Card.
- A current NDIS Workers Screening Check with Simply Helping added as a notified organization for the duration of employment.
- A valid National Police Check, or a current valid International Police Check and working visa. If unable to receive an International Police Check, completing a Statutory Declaration will suffice.

**Skills & Personal Attributes**:

- Knowledge about the Aged Care and/or Disability sector.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work without direct supervision.
- Comfortable with a high level of accountability.
- Experience working in the community.

**Functional Responsibilities**:
Generally, the duties you will be required to perform will be advised to you by Simply Helping or identified in either the Service User’s care plan or communication book. The basic responsibilities you will be required to complete include the following:

- ** Personal Care -** you will be required to assist the Service User through the process of personal assistance for the Service User i.e., showering/bathing, dressing, etc. In some circumstances, you may be required to assist the Service User with matters such as bowel monitoring, continence products, dentures, hearing aids, and more.
- ** Transfers -** transfers will be noted in the Service User’s care plan, e.g., requiring one
- or two-person assistance, hoist, sliding board). If Support Workers are unskilled in using any of the above equipment, training will be provided.
- ** Transportation -** all Support Workers of Simply Helping who transport Service Users are to own a current Australian driver’s license, as well as a registered and roadworthy vehicle. Support Workers when transporting Service Users must use an appropriate car, so the Service Users are able to safely transfer in and out of the vehicle.
- ** Medications -** Simply Helping Support Workers may be required to provide medication support; this can range from monitoring, prompting, or physically assisting the Service User. The support you provide is dependent on your qualifications with medication support.
- ** Domestic Assistance -** this can involve cleaning bathroom utilities (shower, toilet, hand-basin, etc.), sweeping, mopping, or vacuuming the floors, and meal preparation whilst complying with the nutritional needs of the Service User.
