The Cancer Plasticity and Dormancy Program is dedicated to discovering new treatment paradigms to target currently incurable metastatic and relapsing cancers. There is a focus on cancers that spread to or grow predominantly in the skeleton including, multiple myeloma, and breast and prostate cancer. We aim to better predict which patients will relapse and develop new treatments to stop cancer relapse.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking to appoint a motivated research assistant to help perform single-cell analysis of cancer cells isolated from patients. The appointment person will work as part of cross program collaboration between the laboratories of Professor Peter Croucher, Assoc Professor Christine Chaffer and Professor Tri Phan.

Salary: Up to $81,300 + 14% super + salary packaging (depending on experience)

Employment Type: One year term contract with possibility to extend

WHAT YOU WILL DO- Collect and process tissue samples from clinical and animal studies- Develop and optimise cell isolation methods for cell and molecular studies- Perform single cell multiomic methods on cells isolated from patients and animals- Conduct experiments including those utilising cell and molecular biology techniques- Generate and analyse experimental data- Record experimental procedures and results- Attend and participate in regular laboratory and program meetings- Be involved in general laboratory responsibilities including reagent ordering- Be responsible for sharing knowledge with staff and students across the program

ABOUT YOU- Bachelor Degree in Science or Medicine- At least two years practical laboratory experience- Experience in cell and molecular biology techniques- Strong computer skills in areas relative to science- Detail orientated, clear thinking and creative.- Highly motivated with a strong commitment to quality- High degree of flexibility.- An ability to manage time and prioritise workload.- Good communication skills.

Desirable:
- Experience in tissue culture and flow cytometry- Experience in cancer or immunology
