Those who volunteer as LARF Mentors play a key role in this award winning, unique and innovative program that meets regularly to engage young people between 9-16 years of age who are facing economic and social disadvantage. Mentors are provided with training and ongoing support within the group setting as well as regular group supervision/ debriefing at the conclusion of every session.
- The program:_
- LARF stands for life skills, activities, relationships and fun.
- Runs on Thursdays from 6pm-8:30pm on a fortnightly basis
- Role tasks:_
- Meet fortnightly with participants in a group setting
- Facilitate respectful conversations through connection activities
- Act as a positive role model for participants
- Encourage participants in the development of new life skills
- Assist young people to engage with the community
- Undertake training on child safety and mandatory reporting
- Reflect TSA values and follow all TSA policies and procedures
- Commitment:_
- We are looking for volunteers who are able to make a 12 month commitment to the program
- We will provide training support and group supervision for those who volunteer in this role
- Skills & Knowledge:_
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Understanding of child safe standards
- Awareness of any issues disclosed by a mentee that would need to be reported to LARF team
- Willing to work as part of a team
- Self-motivated and proactive
- Confident interacting with young people
- Ability to role model respectful relationships and behavior
