**The Role**
We have vacancies available at the
**APS6 (Policy Officer) and EL1 (Assistant Director)** levels. We are seeking individuals who are highly motivated, proactive, display personal drive, and who enjoy working both independently and as a team. We have busy and positive teams, with roles that focus on policy development, implementation, and communication with internal and external stakeholders. Flourish in a role where you are responsive, collaborative and your excellent leadership and communication skills contribute to quality advice and timely delivery. The
**Quality and Preschool Branch** provide high quality, evidence-based advice to drive positive outcomes for Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC). We work closely with states and territories and the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) to deliver policy advice to support children to access quality early childhood education and care. Key pieces of work that we are responsible for include administering significant preschool reforms, program management of existing preschool partnerships, policy related to child safety and disability, and supporting the Early Childhood and Youth Group to engage with cross government Committees such as the Early Childhood Policy Group, Australian Senior Officials’ Committee, and the Education Ministers’ Meeting.
The
**Early Learning and Indigenous Priorities Branch** has a range of responsibilities including leading on First Nations policy and program delivery related to ECEC, including delivery of the Connected Beginnings program, managing the Australian Government’s involvement in the Early Childhood Care and Development Policy Partnership, and supporting Closing the Gap initiatives for children in their early years. The Branch also has responsibility for leading the Department’s work with the Department of Social Services (DSS) on development of the Early Years Strategy, monitoring and contributing to international ECEC research and policy, and working with States and Territories on matters of access, equity, and inclusion for children in ECEC.
**Skills and Capabilities**
We are seeking individuals with the following skills and capabilities at the APS6 and EL1 levels:
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to provide clear and accurate communication materials to different stakeholders.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage a range of tasks simultaneously, adapt to shifting priorities and progress toward deadlines.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and initiative to work independently, collaboratively, and flexibly in a dynamic area, demonstrating sound judgement.
- A strong knowledge of the early childhood education and care sector and knowledge of policies and programs of Early Childhood and Youth Group is desirable.
- Commonwealth-state relations and/or secretariat experience desirable.
