**The National Justice Project**
**The National Justice Project (NJP)** was established in 2015 as a not-for-profit legal service & civil rights organisation dedicated to tackling systemic injustice, discrimination, and racism. Our vision is to create a fairer society where individuals are treated equally and live safely without discrimination.
We’re independent and courageous, with a proven track record of working with marginalised people and communities. NJP uses the law, education, and effective advocacy to eradicate injustice, discrimination, and racism through systemic change.
We are a small, dedicated team from legal and other professional disciplines, who work collaboratively to advocate for great outcomes for our clients, and to ensure meaningful strategic outcomes across Australia’s legal landscape. These cases and inquests have set important legal precedents, having a significant impact in the lives of our clients and the broader community.
**The Role**
Direct Reports:
The Head of Fundraising and Philanthropy will supervises a small fundraising team, which includes a part time communications specialist, contractors, and volunteers. The Head of Fundraising and Philanthropy will work alongside a full-time Communications Manager to drive organisational growth.
Primary Purpose:
The Head of Fundraising and Philanthropy provides a critical role in achieving sustainable revenue growth and diversified streams of income for the National Justice Project.
You will design, develop and deliver the organisation’s strategic fundraising plan and pipeline to achieve, if not exceed, the annual fundraising target in excess of $2 Million, including working with: major donors, trusts and foundations, corporate donors, grassroots donors, regular donors, as well as organising workplace giving and peer-to-peer donors, bequests and sponsorship.
You will have the knowledge and experience to create and implement a long-term fundraising strategy that includes acquisition, conversion, stewardship and growth.
Key Responsibilities:
We are looking for a proactive and inspiring leader capable of managing a fundraising team including consultants and volunteers to deliver results. Responsibilities include:
- Achieve, if not exceed, the annual fundraising target of
$2 Million and grow this target over time with sustainability.
- Effective engagement and reporting to CEO and GMs and to work respectfully with the executive team; wider legal, projects and administration teams; statutory and advisory board including the fundraising committee.
- Support NJP’s overall vision, strategy, budget and operational priorities, while fostering our values and positive culture.
- Liaise and organise Board, CEO and Executive staff to build and retain relationships with donors.
- Identify opportunities for new grant income to support key project and program development.
- Develop, budget, and implement a strategy and engagement plan for existing, lapsed and new major donors and trusts and foundation; and maintain and grow an active pipeline of prospects for major donors.
- Develop, budget and implement a strategy and engagement plan for existing, lapsed and new grassroots, regular, workplace and peer-to-peer donors, including working with the Communications Manager to deliver campaigns.
- Develop, budget and implement a strategy and engagement plan to acquire corporate donors, bequests and sponsorship.
- Maintain and further develop the capabilities of the National
Justice Project’s Salesforce donor database.
- Manage and update donor database, CRM system and day to day accounting, including receipting.
- Manage fundraising compliance, policy and procedures, including data and risk management.
- Prepare presentations, proposals, acquittal reports and cases for support.
- Plan and host events with the CEO and Executive Team to attract and retain donors and partners.
- Strategically assess opportunities against organisational capacity.
**Key Experience & Knowledge Areas**:
- A proven track record of success in major gifts fundraising.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working in fundraising.
- Donor acquisition experience, successfully converting leads into major gifts, donor stewardship and management.
- Excellent relationship building and influencing skills, including communicating with influence, confidence and cultural respect.
- Ability to successfully manage a broad range of areas and activities with limited resources and to tight deadlines.
- Excellent planning, prioritizing and time management skills
(proactive and resourceful approach with a ‘can do’ attitude).
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
