**About the team**

The Infrastructure and Place division is in the process of delivering a once-in-a generation multi-billion dollar program of public infrastructure works which will ease congestion, improve safety, create new places and connect communities for generations to come. The Technical Services Branch provides specialised engineering services for the multi-modal delivery, operations and management of our Transport network, and is the centre of technical expertise driving innovation and best practice. **The opportunity**

Due to the unprecedented scale of investment in the Transport for NSW Future Transport strategy we have a permanent opportunity for a **Principal Tunnel Structural Engineer** to be part the Advanced Technical Services team.

The role manages technical risk in infrastructure projects to enable the multi-modal development, delivery, operations, and management of tunnels safely, to optimum-quality, on time and on budget, with minimum impact to the community and the environment. The role provides input into design and design working groups for technical advice, documentation review, technical assurance, standards and knowledge management of the tunnel structure design components.

We present a fantastic opportunity on the client side to make a serious impact. The role will shape the various mega tunnel projects happening across NSW right now. The role will bring together Geotechnical and/or structural expertise. It will seek to create a single point of contact for expert tunnel advice for our clients. These will consist of internal and external delivery partners. The role provides an excellent pathway to various career opportunities

**What you will be involved in**:

- Provide specialist advice in relation to design reviews and monitoring of tunnel structure design reporting and engineering plans to ensure compliance with Planning Approvals, Standards, Project Deed and Project SWTC and that they contribute to customer requirements and provide environmentally sustainable outcomes.
- Manage the TfNSW technical risk in tunnel structures by providing specialist advice and solutions, monitoring and reviewing the quality and appropriateness of works briefs, technical specifications and specialist technical input to ensure adherence to project outcomes and performance requirements.
- Review design risks and opportunities in accordance with the project Risk Management System to ensure safety has been addressed through all phases including design, construction, operation, decommissioning and disposal, and that a safety validation is undertaken of any changes to designs or structures that may impact safety performance.
- Provide expert technical advice on structural engineering aspects of tunnels including cut and cover structures, shafts etc.
- Provide expert technical advice to TfNSW and industry on high value and high risk projects and tasks and on the provision of strategic and concept tunnel design.
- Coordinate the approval of concept and detail designs for tunnels ensuring costs, practicality, suitability and customer outcomes are achieved.
- Monitor and review contemporary and internationally based design and system utilisation concepts put forward by the contracted service providers and ensure these are reflected in completed design phases
