Design & Construction Manager

A unique and exciting opportunity for an experienced Design & Construction Manager to be part of a landmark cutting edge project managing this pinnacle Renewable Energy Infrastructure Project.

**The Role & Responsibilities**:
This new position of the Design & Construction Manager will require coordination and stakeholder engagement ability across a complex project environment. You will also be able to demonstrate your strong communication, influencing and negotiation skills as well as your advanced understanding of industry standards and best practice. In addition, you will be a strong leader with the ability to support, mentor and develop your team.

**Reporting directly to the Director, key criteria and activities will include;**
- Take the lead in setting Construction and Contracting Strategies for the project to minimise risk, costs and meet schedule including:

- Review and assess construction procurement and manage the procurement team, a tender process to select and appoint a contractor for construction.
- Identify Tier 1 contractors capable of undertaking the construction works and undertake an EOI process and shortlisting of preferred suppliers.
- Manage an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) process (or other selected procurement option) through detail design development,
- Management of the value engineering process and completion of a reference (preliminary) design inclusive of estimated construction costs and schedule.
- Support the Engineering workstream lead to manage the technical design process while not losing sight of the overall project goals.
- Provide certainty on the construction cost and schedule of the project for input into the detailed business case.
- Review of Contractors work plans and procedures to ensure the design intent is achieved and terminal built to the required specifications.
- Provide leadership in achieving the Environmental, Safety and Health goals and objectives set for the project.
- Active management of design and construction issues, risks and required key approvals & decisions by targeted oversight and reporting of the works to senior leadership.
- Supporting the wider project team with reporting to Board and Steering Committee.

**To be successful in this position, you will hold relevant tertiary qualifications and have a proven track record as a management professional with at least 20 years' experience in a similar role delivering projects exceeding $500m+**
- Relevant degree qualification in Civil Engineering or Project Management in large scale infrastructure projects across Ports and Marine
- Engineering background with experience in large scale complex renewable projects with a background in Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Electrical engineering across Design & Construction.
- Senior experience in D&C Management (or similar senior level) experience with experience in Ports and Marine Industry
- A proven background and ability in managing infrastructure engineering and renewable construction projects from early stage design, environmental approvals to delivery.
- Demonstrated management experience, or exposure to project value of $500m+ in a civil/construction environment.
- A strong understanding of local Victoria legislation and policy is highly desirable
- Problem-solving initiative and a sound ability to make judgments in a civil engineering project
- A sound understanding and knowledge of construction principles in multi-discipline contracting environment
- A high level of business and commercial acumen backed by a sound ability to create, read, and interpret budgets, financial statements and analyse variance reports
