**About the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority**
The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) is an independent statutory authority responsible for supervising institutions across banking, insurance, and superannuation and is accountable to the Australian Parliament. Its core role in prudential regulation is to ensure the financial soundness and stability of regulated institutions, so the community can have confidence in their ability to meet their financial commitments under all reasonable circumstances.
**About the role**:
The Deputy Chair of APRA plays a critical leadership role in safeguarding Australia’s financial system. This includes shaping strategic direction and operational oversight of APRA’s regulatory and supervisory functions across banking, insurance, and superannuation sectors. This senior role engages with government, industry stakeholders, and international regulatory bodies to promote financial stability, sound governance, effective risk management and efficient regulation. The Deputy Chair also represents APRA in high-level forums and public discourse with authority and transparency.
In addition to contributing to APRA’s overall goals, priorities and strategies, the Deputy Chair may lead oversight for specific areas of APRA’s operations.
APRA Members are appointed for a period of up to 5 years, with the possibility of re-appointment.
**Professional Experience**:
Qualifications and experience relevant to APRA’s mandate, including:
- Credibility in the financial services industry and demonstrated success in senior roles in a related field, including management, financial services, regulatory bodies and/or government.
- Knowledge of, or experience in, one or more of the following fields - banking, insurance or superannuation
- A strong working knowledge of the dynamics of financial system regulation and the role of APRA. Knowledge of prudential regulation and enforcement experience is highly desirable.
- Recognised expertise and presence to lead high-level discussions with industry leaders, government, regulatory agencies and other stakeholders, earning respect through insight and professionalism.
- The ability to contribute to the leadership of an organisation of significant scale and complexity and experience in managing organisational change.
- The ability to lead and manage important engagement with domestic peer agencies and the Council of Financial Regulators.
- International perspectives and/or experience and the ability to engage in international fora is desirable.
