About the Program Area
The Executive Support Unit (ESU) sits within the Strategy and Operations Group and is
responsible for:

- ** **secretariat support;
- ** **risk and governance activities;
- ** **corporate reporting;
- ** **business planning; and
- ** **project management.

About the Role***

The Assistant Director Governance and Risk role will be required to undertake a range of
complex and sensitive work that spans all areas of AIATSIS and underpins the
accountabilities of the Audit & Assurance Committee and the Senior Executive.

The Assistant Director, Governance and Risk is expected to be highly professional and
strategic with strong co-ordination, project management, analytical, communication and
people skills. As part of the Executive Level Leadership Group, this officer will need to
exercise a considerable degree of independence and perform a leadership role within the
team, across AIATSIS and with other external stakeholders such as the Internal Auditor
and the ANAO.

The work of the Executive Support Unit is varied and dynamic and extends across the
whole agency. The small team works collaboratively to achieve its goals and the
communication skills and be prepared to contribute to the work of the whole team.

This position reports to the Director of the Executive Support Team.

Key responsibilities of the role will include but are not limited to:
maintaining, revising, developing and supporting the AIATSIS’s enterprise risk
management framework and its linkages to planning, governance processes and
legislative requirements

evaluating, developing or revising business processes and reporting mechanisms
in relation to the AIATSIS’s risk management framework including, Fraud, Risk,
Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery, Audit, Comcover, Freedom of
Information, Reporting and Surveys

working with the Director to support the Audit and Assurance Committee and
other executive forums as needed

ensuring Business and Continuity Plans (including disaster recovery) are in place,
tested and up to date

providing advice, guidance and training to operational and corporate areas on
best practice risk management

management of the internal audit program in conjunction with the AIATSIS
internal Audit Service provider including coordination, development and
management of Audit Plan, projects and papers

management of Public Interest Disclosure activities including education, policy
development, revision and updating

the AIATSIS Internal Policy Framework, management and development and
facilitation of any external Audit Program

championing organisation wide knowledge of risk ensuring risk mitigation
practices at AIATSIS are based on governance models of the _PGPA Act 2013_ and
the Commonwealth Risk Management Policy.

This position will be filled using the Affirmative Measure provision, which allows for the
