**Who we are**
In partnership with internal and external stakeholders, Compliance & Enforcement Division monitor and assess risk to enhance compliance through effective regulatory intervention, ranging from education to enforcement which will ultimately safeguard our economy, trade, environment and agriculture.
The Office of Water Compliance supports the Inspector-General of Water Compliance, which is an independent statutory role. The Inspector-General of Water Compliance will aim to improve trust and transparency in implementing the Commonwealth’s Basin water reform agenda, deliver greater consistency and harmonisation of water regulation across the Basin, and strengthen Basin Plan compliance and enforcement.
Under limited direction, the Field Officer supports and assists the Director, Field Operations to establish and maintain effective communication channels and cooperation with all stakeholders within the area of responsibility in the Murray Darling Basin. The Field Officer will maintain clear and effective communication regarding all outcomes and concerns in written and verbal formats to the Director, Field Operations.
**The Job**
The position requires a high level of autonomy and may require periods of working ‘one-up’ in rural or remote locations.
Duties of the role include but are not limited to:
- providing support to the Inspector-General of Water Compliance
- handling of complaints and allegations, independent assurance of Basin Plan implementation and compliance responsibilities under the Basin Plan and Water Act 2007
- working with and liaising across Commonwealth and State agencies on matters relating to the IGWC
- engaging and collaborating with key stakeholders
- assisting in managing business of government activities including providing briefs, correspondence, talking points for media, Ministers, and senior executives
- managing general administrative support to the Inspector-General.
**Please note** that this position process is available for an initial period of 18 months with the possibility of extension up to a maximum period of 3 years in total.
**What we are looking for**
Knowledge and experience
The successful applicant will have some or all the following:
- experience working in a fast-paced and changing environment
- experience in handling complaints, allegations, investigations, assurance, and reporting
- experience working with legislative or regulatory frameworks
- demonstrated understanding or knowledge of the Murray-Darling Basin is desirable.

The successful applicant will be used to working in a high paced, agile environment and willing to take on a range of activities.

- highly developed interpersonal skills including diplomacy and ability to collaborate
- sound judgement and the ability to set priorities, monitor own performance and produce high-quality work within agreed timeframes

- strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability research topical issues
- the ability to work productively in a team environment and independently under limited supervision
- high-level policy formulation and analytical skills (including conceptual and problem-solving skills) and sound judgement
- ability to develop and implement engagement strategy.
