**Who we are**
The Office of the Science Convenor (OSC) provides advice to the Executive on enterprise-level strategic science issues. We are a small team, working to ensure that the best available science is being used to inform policy and decision making by:

- identifying and advocating for our scientists and understanding their needs,
- improving science communication and policy translation,
- facilitating and strengthening science partnerships across and outside government,
- convening an interdepartmental Science Council of senior scientists and emerging science leaders.

**The Job**
You would support the team with insight gathering from departmental science networks to promote evidence-based decision making and support reporting to departmental science leaders and executives. In this role you will:

- develop quantitative and qualitative data and survey collection and analysis tools to gather insights across the department in the use and translation of science,
- support the OSC Team in the design of creative methods for maximum engagement across the department’s science network,
- analyse needs, outcomes, impact, and barriers to best-practice science at the enterprise-level and prepare influential briefing materials to elicit change,
- work with the OSC Team to implement learnings and iterate work culture change programs as required,
- support the OSC Team to conduct interviews, focus groups and other forms of engaging scientists and science leaders to address priority and/or emerging issues as appropriate,
- work collaboratively and enthusiastically in the small OSC Team to achieve dynamic and impactful cross-cutting outcomes for the OSC Team and the department as required.

**What we are looking for**

**Knowledge and experience**
- Relevant experience in a data, analytics and/or science related role.
- Knowledge of data collection, survey design, curation and analysis tools.
- Experience with implementation of behavioural insight generated initiatives.
- Experience with impact monitoring, evaluation and reporting.

**Skills and capabilities**
- Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.
- Project design, management and delivery capability.
- Strong written and verbal communication and facilitations skills.
- Ability to contribute flexibly and positively in a small team environment.

**Mandatory Qualifications**
A Bachelor's degree in a scientific data relevant field such as computer science, IT, mathematics or statistics, or equivalent experience.

**Eligibility and other requirements**

**Citizenship** - To be eligible for employment with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water you must be an Australian citizen.

**Security Clearance** - This position requires a Baseline Vetting security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
