The Governance Officer plays a key role in assisting the Head of Governance and Planning in ensuring the Museum meets its governance and legislative requirements through supporting the operation of the Museum’s Council and its committees and co-ordinating governance and legislative deliverables.

This role provides secretariate support for the Museum’s Executive Review Group and may also leads priority projects of a sensitive or complex nature for the Museum Executive.

This role supports the Museum’s Executive in relation to information governance including Museum’s electronic document and records management system, and legislative compliance.

The position also provides support for continuous improvement initiatives across the Museum relating to governance, audit, risk and compliance issues including policy development, implementation and training and information management.

**Duties**
Under limited direction, this position is responsible for delivering the following functions:

- Assist the Head of Governance and Planning with the provision of secretariate support services for the

Council and its committees, including coordinating agendas and papers, maintaining workplans, preparing
minutes and managing administrative arrangements.
- Assist with the management of the Museum’s corporate policies including maintaining the Museum’s Policy

Framework and Policy Register.
- Conduct regular research and reviews of charters, policies and other relevant governance documents, systems

and processes.
- Assist with reviewing basic legal contracts and documents as required and provide feedback to the Head of

Governance and Planning.
- Supervise the Records Management Officer in the provision of advice and training on the Museum’s electronic document and records management system. to ensure compliance with the Archives Act and other relevant requirements.
- Coordinate information governance activities and continuous improvement initiatives including Freedom of

Information Act (FOI) requests, Privacy Act related submissions, and National Archives requirements such as
the Check-up survey.
- Support the Head of Governance and Planning with the provision of responses to ministerial correspondence, parliamentary issues, Cabinet matters, periodic government reporting and other government

requests as required.
- Support the delivery of the Museum’s Commonwealth Performance Framework requirements including the

Annual Report and Corporate Plan.
- Provide secretariate support for the Museum’s Executive Review Group and assist the Executive with projects of a sensitive or complex nature, including project planning, stakeholder consultation, research and seeking expert advice.
