Established in 1871, the Art Gallery of New South Wales is located in Sydney’s The Domain adjacent to the Royal Botanic Garden and near the Central Business District, the Art Gallery acknowledges the original custodians of this land - the Gadigal people of the Eora nation.

The Art Gallery attracts around 2 million visitors annually and runs one of Australia’s largest art education programs with over 90,000 student and teacher visits per year.

Our expanded campus opened in late 2022, providing the Art Gallery with a new state-of-the-art building located next to our existing and much-loved building. The addition has given the Art Gallery double the exhibition space, allowing us to significantly increase our scheduled exhibitions, companion publications, family programming and educational programs, allowing the Art Gallery to share more art with more people.

**About the role**

To co-share the management, development and realisation of engaging collaborative projects, programs and interpretive content, centered on First Nations art, that support the Art Gallery’s strategic plan of connecting with existing and potential audiences, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander audiences, more effectively.

This is not a First Nations Identified role however the successful applicant must either identify as being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander or have a strong knowledge of and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art and culture. See the essential skills for more detail.

**What technical / soft skills you require**
- Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and accepted in the community as such. Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-discrimination Act 1997. Or a strong knowledge of and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art and culture.
- Demonstrated experience in leading, devising and delivering collaborative projects and programs which engage diverse audiences with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander art coupled with proven ability to set program objectives and reach targets on time and within budget.
- Excellent working knowledge of art history, with strengths in Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander art in an educational context, and extensive experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultural knowledge.
- Effective stakeholder management skills and the ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Describe a challenging project with multiple internal and/or external stakeholders that you were required to manage. Describe the process you used to ensure staff remained on tasks and that all stakeholders were engaged. (max 400 words)
- Describe how you developed First Nations community engagement for a program targeting culturally and linguistically diverse audiences. What was your approach? How did you measure success? (maximum 400 words)
