**The role**:
The Above Water Systems (AWS) Business provides products and services to the Royal Australian Navy and commercial maritime markets. Its core activities focus on the supply of naval sensors and in
- service support which covers asset management, maintenance and repair.

Amazing opportunity for a **Safety Engineering and Assurance Manager **to join our AWS business based in Garden Island. In this role you will be accountable for leadership and steering of the Safety Engineering and Assurance function for Thales AWS Australia. You will play a pivotal role in upskilling our project and engineering teams and strengthening our system safety capability across the board. In this role you will support the AWS business in developing and delivering solutions (products, support equipment, systems, and services) that are adequately safe for their intended purpose in order to eliminate or reduce harm to people, equipment and the environment.

Responsibilities will include:

- Lead and manage the provision of professional Safety Engineering and Assurance services
- Lead, manage and develop a high-performing team of Safety Engineering and Assurance Specialists
- Provide ongoing guidance, mentoring, upskilling and training to personnel involved in system safety activities and decision making at all levels
- Execute, monitor and report on the system safety assurance program including the management of escalated safety risks and endorsement of Safety Cases.
- Stewardship of the system safety management system by monitoring, identifying and/or implementing changes and improvements required to ensure ongoing best practice and compliance with safety legislation, industry regulation and corporate policies.
- Ensure the correct understanding, communication and the demonstrated compliance with Defence Seaworthiness and Thales Safety in Design principles and requirements

**How about you?**
- Tertiary qualification or extensive experience in System Safety/Risk/Reliability/Systems Engineering or in a related discipline including, but not limited to Engineering, Computer Science, Human Factors.
- Relevant experience in safety and mission critical programs within heavily regulated industries (Defence, Railway, Aerospace, Nuclear or Oil & Gas).
- Proven experience with the stewardship of safety managements systems, the execution of system safety assurance programs and the management of safety risks.
- Working knowledge of Safety Legislation, Industry Regulation and Technical Standards combined with a sound understanding of the Systems Engineering process.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a high-performing team with a focus on service delivery and customer satisfaction.
- Advanced communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to engage, influence and negotiate with diverse internal and external stakeholders and customers.

**Good to Know
International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) are applicable and as such, your nationality may be a factor in determining your suitability for this role.
