**About the role**
This role is responsible for development and implementation of strategies for language enhancement, assisting international students with the transition to study in an Australian learning environment, the development of appropriate study skills and counselling students on poor academic performance.
**Key result areas**:
- Develop, implement and monitor programs, orientation, resources and services that promote the wellbeing of students and student engagement and report outcomes to the relevant committees
- Provide individual counselling to students with regard to academic performance, program/course advice, academic policies and procedures, program progression, transition to University and other study related and personal issues
- Contribute to strategies and projects to support student retention
- Manage at risk/intervention framework in collaboration with academics
- Assistance with academic writing, language enhancement and assignments and establish student academic support networks
- Refer students to the Student Counsellor and other core professional services as appropriate
- Maintain awareness of the regulatory environment as it relates to student support and ensure compliance with external and internal policy frameworks
- Provide individual or group assistance with assignments and academic and language literacies and provide support for students with disabilities
- Liaise with College/Campus and University staff, as well as professional organisations on issues related to student academic progress, and transition to College/Campus University life
- For specialist areas such as Language and Literacy;
- Develop, implement and monitor programs and services which assist with the development of study skills and language proficiency
- Teach weighted and non-weighted courses focused on academic and or English language literacies
- Undertake research and scholarly activity on learning activities in higher education that will inform innovative practice in the area of language development and provision of learning assistance
- Undertake periodic data analysis, and report to the Executive Committee on findings regarding the possible links between established College/Campus English language entry levels, and academic outcomes
**The person we seek will ideally have the following**
**Essential**:
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent practical experience in a related role within higher education industry or similar
- Experience in the development and delivery of student academic support programs, preferably in a tertiary environment
- Demonstrated evidence of the ability to teach academic skills to individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds, and to assess academic skills literacy
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills with a proven ability to consult and liaise with a wide range of people from diverse range of backgrounds
- Ability to work with mínimal supervision and to manage conflicting priorities and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and contribute to the development and delivery of strategies aimed at improving student learning outcomes
- Commitment to providing a quality customer service to students with a strong focus on accurate and timely advice
- Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, promote, facilitate, monitor and evaluate learning programs or events
- Competency using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and willingness and ability to quickly adapt to new computer systems/programs
**Desirable**:
- Experience in working in a higher education environment
- Qualification or experience in teaching students English as a second language
- Knowledge of _Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 _and _National Code _(2018)
