**Who are we looking for?**

Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to join Faculty Operations, Faculty of Science, Academic Division.

The Laboratory Assistant role delivers essential support to staff within the Chemistry and Physical Sciences Technical Services team to achieve effective, safe, and sustainable operations in a range of laboratory facilities. This position is required to develop effective working relationships across a broad range of faculty and university communities, as well as contributing to the ongoing improvement of work processes. All Science Faculty staff are expected to contribute to work across the Faculty and participate in cross-functional project teams. All Technical Services team members seek to attain Service Excellence through the provision of professional technical support that is highly relevant, has a performance focus and is oriented towards creating exceptional academic experiences. This position reports to the Supervising Technician - Chemistry and Physical Sciences for supervision, workload management and for Performance Planning and Review (PPR). Key responsibilities include: - Provide general technical assistance in alignment with policies and procedures to enable efficient support of teaching, research, and engagement activities. - Assist with purchasing, repairs and maintenance, logistics, preparations, clean-up and disposal, sourcing, and data collections. - Identifying resource and facility developments to support continuous improvement. - Contribution to the development of a collaborative service culture. - Engage in opportunities for professional development to ensure knowledge and skills are aligned with contemporary industry practice. - Proactively implement and adhere to QUT’s HSE policies and procedures, and the obligations defined by the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 for laboratory work. - Compliance with health and safety policies, procedures, hazard reporting and safe work practices.

- Completion of an associate diploma, with subsequent relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training, preferably in a laboratory or industry research environment.
- Proven ability to prioritise tasks and work collaboratively to achieve team-based outcomes in a changing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to provide quality client service.
- Proven ability to analyse, adapt and problem solve.
- Demonstrated ability to connect and collaborate with a range of diverse groups (including those whose first language is other than English), and work effectively within a team in a demanding and high paced environment.
- Proven ability in the use of correct manual handling techniques
